Throughout his work Gharem questions our relationship and trust in the structures and materials that surround us. In the past he has made work concerning our understanding of, and relationship to, concrete. He has addressed bureaucracy and the authority of its accoutrements – in this case, rubber-stamps.

Like most countries that have experienced terrorist attacks in recent years, prominent government buildings in parts of the Middle East are surrounded by low concrete barriers. Concrete in this context denotes safety and immovability. The yellow lines in this piece are identical in colour and proportion to those you find edging the roads that spiderweb Saudi Arabia

Not having yourself stamped but painting your own way over stamps is not unlike 'not trusting concrete.' In the paintings the bridge crossing the ravine was changed by Gharem into a Pedestrian Crossing. And like the bridge the crossing collapsed: the two stripes of the Zebra contained an image of the Twin Towers at the moment of impact of the second airplane.

Life is a kind of stamped contract since you're born. You have religion, it's a contract, you have a wife it's a contract, between the countries there is a contract for trading, for tourism. What those people did [9/11 conspirators], not representing me - believe me I'm not with them at all ok? But they destroy me, so we are equal, the people is looking at me like how they are looking at them. The scientists are trying to discover the faster aeroplane in the world so the people will have communications so fast, but when I ask for visa to America I should wait for eight months, so what the hell is that? Just give me my visa in one month it will be enough.
